Since many people will never be able to travel to the San Bernardino Mountains, this photo essay will give you an idea of what this part of Southern California looks like. If you are planning a trip to the San Bernardino Mountains in the near future, these photos will also give you a glimpse into the scenery during the winter when the oak trees are bare. The forest used to be much thicker up in the San Bernardino Mountains, but the recent bark beetle infestations and fires have made the forest thinner than it was ten years ago. You could not even see the Pinnacles through the trees at one time, but now you can see these again. However, I noticed some small trees are beginning to grow and obscure the view again.
